Should I Get a Stand-Up or Treadmill Desk?
Should I get a stand-up desk or treadmill desk?
My answer is yes, you should absolutely get a standup or treadmill desk.
They’re actually not that expensive compared to regular executive desks. A big, executive, mahogany desk can cost $1,000.00, $5,000.00, $10,000.00. You can get standup desks or treadmill desks for the hundreds of dollars.
Geek Desk sells an entry-level standup desk for about $600.00. The one I have is closer to $900.00, and it has presets, so it allows you to raise and lower the desk.
Now, first of all, having a standup desk makes you feel better. Instead of sitting all day long and getting back pain associated with it, you’re moving up, you’re sitting down, you switch positions during the day, which just makes you feel better and makes you feel less fatigued.
Furthermore, there’s a lot of research that correlates sitting with increased vulnerability to disease, such as cancers and heart disease and all sorts of really bad things. So when you have a standing desk, you may or may not be mitigating it.
It’s very careful to note that this is correlation and not causation that’s been found in these studies, but in any case, having a standup desk just makes you feel more dynamic at work, and for me, it helps me focus a lot more.
